The Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG) is the art academy of the State of Hessen. Founded in 1832 as an artisan school, it became a school of applied arts where art, crafts and theoretical subjects were taught under one roof. In 1970 it was conferred university status. With a focus on the training and research models of the Bauhaus and the Ulm School of Design, the HfG Offenbach combines a wide variety of faculties ranging from product design through communication design and media to art and stage design.
