Top Prices

Wetzlar Camera Auctions offered some rarities at the fifth auction and achieved top prices, among them a camera of Leica 0-series from 1923.

On October 7th, 2023, the fifth auction for historical photo cameras and accessory by Wetzlar Camera Auctions (WCA) yielded again impressive results. For example, for the prototype of a Leica IIIc from 1934, estimated at 80,000 Euro, the hammer fell at 400,000 Euro; the bidding fight for a Leica M3 from the former armory of the German federal army dated 1966 started out at 30,000 Euro and didn’t end until it had reached 162,500 Euro. But the highlight was a camera of Leica 0-series from 1923 (see image) with a starting price of 800,000 Euro which was finally sold at 3.5 million Euro. “Exactly 100 years, after this camera had been manufactured here in Wetzlar, we were able to auction it off here in Wetzlar – an honor for our auction house and certainly an absolute highlight in the history of our enterprise,” rejoices WCA co-owner Lars Netopil.
